Dance Tips

Zydeco is a wonderfully addictive dance from Louisiana and listed below are a few tips that I will keep adding to. Listed below are a few video clips showing Zydeco dancers with great styles..

Tip #1
The first clip listed below just shows what Zydeco looks like in Louisiana. Thanks to Harold Guillory and his Louisiana Zydeco Live show it really helps to see some of the different styles on the dance floor. Note in the open position how the follow does not really pay attention to the lead as you only connect with your partner for a couple beats of music. In the closed position the lead is leading all of the moves but in the open position the follow is on her own for about 6 beats of music.

Tip #2
In the closed position the top of the dance frame with the best dancers is often very calm and both partners use the strong connection on the top of their body to help isolate and make their weight changes togetherwith the bottom of their bodies.

Starting at 35 seconds note the dancer in the yellow shirt and cowboy hat and his partner in the white shirt. Note the strong connection which allows him to easily lead his partners body where he would like as the drum out their weight changes together with the bottom of their bodies.

Tip #3
David Jordahl and his partner Breda are from Minnesota but they dance like they were raised in Louisiana. Note the sliding back and forth as
this is referred to as the Floating Slide or Slide with Lifts and is a little harder to learn than some of the intermediate moves in Zydeco.
